THE long arm of the law has finally caught up with petty criminals.

Trivial offences like graffiti, drunk and disorderly, driving a vehicle at night without lights and exploding fireworks in public places, which were ignored by law enforcers because the penalties were light, has now changed.

Yesterday, 10th April, 2018, Parliament amended the Summary Offences Act of 1977 and increased the penalties to all these petty offences with the minimum penalty set at K1000 or three years in jail.

The Firearms Act has also been amended to fine offenders up to K10,000 and/or be jailed for 10 years.
