please thank him for the photo's of Ambunti taken in the 1950's. By the late
1960's the kunai had been replaced by trees and the station looked much
different. I have the fondest memories of Ambunti. While I was there Tom Ellis
flew into Ambunti - he had been a pre-war medical officer on the river - he
got us all together and in a loud voice stated: "There is one thing I
will not stand from any of my officers stationed at Ambunti" - we all
shuddered and shook, just who had done what - "I will not tolerate"
he went on "any officer sitting on the river bank waiting for the river
to flow in the other direction." That was Tom's joke for the day. Many
